Increased circulation and library usage

I strongly believe that one major reason why my circulation numbers have doubled in four years, and my library usage overall continues to go up- last year we recorded nearly 65,000 people using our library- is because of the Monarch Method.
Now, any student can find books by browsing topics they are interested in. For them it is completely intuitive and they end up finding books they didn't even know they wanted to read. My library is easily accessible for all my students- regardless of their reading level or interests.
It is important for me to emphasize that I did not close the library once to get this method into
place. It took three years because we kept changing the system to best meet the needs of our
students. By keeping it open we were able to observe how the system worked and tweak it accordingly.

Consider the space outside your library too, like landscaping around a house. You’re not going
to want to go up to a house where the yard is all overgrown with weeds, has a broken hallway, or
even if it’s mundane and boring looking. You can make the outside area a welcoming space by
painting warm colors on the walls, hanging posters of familiar figures and pop culture icons, and
having modern and relevant books in the display case and at the front desk.
